The Israeli ambassador to China, Mr. Matan Vilnai, visited our university on Friday, November 25. Mr. Matan Vilnai is a senior statesman, strategist and diplomat of Israel, who held many important posts in Israel including Deputy Secretary of Defense, Minister of Science, Culture and Sport and Minister of Homeland Security. Since he became the ambassador to China in 2012, he has been working on the deepening of the relationship between the two countries and has become a bridge of the friendship between China and Israel. Thanks to his efforts, the cooperation in the areas such as economy, technology and humanities of our two countries has been strengthened, the visa policies has been relaxed and the direct flights has been opened, which all promote the Sino-Israeli relations to a new level.
Li Jun,Council Chairman of HGU , Wang Fengming, president of HGU etc. met with Mr. Matan Vilnai at the Meeting Room of the Main Building. Wang Fengming gave a brief introduction of the history and characteristics of HGU and expressed the hope of cooperating with Israeli universities in the utilization and management of water resources, the education of innovation and entrepreneurship, the information security, the geo-information system, etc. Admitting the significance of the communication and exchange between the universities of China and Israel, Mr. Matan Vilnai said that he was willing to establish platforms for the cooperation.
In the afternoon, Mr. Vilnai launched a speech entitledthe Innovation of Israel in Chunqiu Auditorium. In the speech, he shared his personal experience with the faculty and students, introduced Israeli innovative products including the capsule endoscopy and outlined the prospect of bilateral cooperation between China and Israel. He showed us an innovative Israel from various aspects, such as education, culture, technology and the environment of development, and expressed his hope of receiving a win-win effect from the exchange and cooperation of the universities.
Meanwhile, Mr. Matan Vilnai had a cordial interaction with the faculty and students.
After the speech, Mr. Matan Vilnai and his delegation visited our Geo-Science Museum.
