At the invitation of L’Institut d’Etudes Diplomatiques de laRépublique de Djibouti and the University of the Witwatersrand, a delegation of our university, headed by the Vice-president Zhang Xiaoping, visited Djibouti and South Africa from January 30 to February 7 and obtained fruitful results.
First, the delegation visited Djibouti from January 30 to February 1. The President of L’Institut d’Etudes Diplomatiques de laRépublique de Djibouti Mr. Moussa Meigague received the delegation at the airport. Next, Mr. Mohamed Hassan, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with them, highly praised the bilateral relationship between China and Djibouti and expressed his hope to strengthen the cooperation and communication in education and culture. Mr. Aboubaker Hassan, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, also met with the delegation. He said that he will support our cooperation with the universities in Djibouti. Through this visit, we signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with L’Institut d’Etudes Diplomatiques de laRépublique de Djibouti. Moreover, all those was reported by the national newspaper and radio channel of Djibouti.
In February 2, the delegation visited Hebei Workstation in South Africa and met with the director of the Department of Natural Science, North-West University. The two parties exchange views on the cooperation in geoscience and reached preliminary agreement. Afterwards, the delegation visited the well-know University of the Witwatersrand and had a meeting with the directors and professors of relevant departments. During the meeting, the two parties had a considerable discussion on exchange of teachers, construction of discipline, research cooperation and oversea study. They agreed to start the cooperation from exchange of teachers and students and signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
The delegation visited Kimberley from February 4 to 5, and visited Kimberley International Diamond and Jewellery Academy and Sol Plaatje University, consecutively, which laid solid foundation for further exchange and cooperation.
During their stay in Kimberley, several government officials and entrepreneurs of the Northern Cape Province also met with the delegation, which was reported by some local major newspapers and channels.
This visit deepens mutual understanding and trust between the universities and broadens the cooperation and exchange with Djibouti and South Africa.
